Meteor Class
Besides the USS Prometheus, the USS Meteor is the second prototype of a multi-vector attack ship. If necessary, the ship splits into two parts, either of which has full attack and defense potential (phasers, photon torpedoes, quantum torpedoes, multilayer shields) and a fully operational warp drive. The two parts operate independently also in coupled mode, providing a great deal of redundancy in combat or in other emergency situations. They both possess one warp core and one main fusion reactor that can fully replace each other or be combined. However, it has been criticized that the Meteor is less efficient than a fully integrated design like the Intrepid class for that reason.
The lead ship was rushed into a service during the final days of the Dominion War, the other five ones followed in rapid succession. It will be decided in the near future whether the production of the Meteor class or rather of the Prometheus will be continued.
